Dante Pieramici, MD

Dante Pieramici, MD, is a Managing Partner at California Retina Consultants, President of the California Retina Research Foundation, and a member of the Medical Leadership Board of the Retina Consultants of America. He is also a long-time board member at S.E.E International. As the Medical Director of Clinical Research at California Retina Consultants, Dr. Pieramici has served as the principal or sub investigator in over 100 clinical trials. His research has focused primarily on new surgical and pharmacologic treatments for age-related macular degeneration and diabetic related eye diseases. Dr. Pieramici was part of the teams that developed limited macular translocation techniques, the 25-gauge surgical platform, as well as a refillable drug delivery system (PDS) that have received FDA approval. Dr. Pieramici has served as a consultant for numerous biotech companies helping design, monitor and evaluate the results of clinical trials for retinal diseases. He has authored hundreds of peer-reviewed research papers and book chapters on retinal diseases and has served as editor for the text, Ocular Trauma; Principles and Practice.

Dr. Pieramici graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute. He then pursued his retina fellowship training at the Emory University Eye Center before joining the full-time faculty at both Yale University Hospital and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where he served as Assistant Chief of Service of the Wilmer Eye Institute.

He has traveled around the world providing retina care for underserved populations and training foreign retinal specialists. Dr. Pieramici is also a former President of the Santa Barbara County Medical Society and a member of the Board of Governors of Northwestern University Libraries. Dr. Pieramici has been recognized as one of the Best Doctors in America and a Castle Connolly Top Doctor.
